Job Description Summary:

• The Director of Planning, Design and Construction is responsible for conducting facilities planning and directing capital and infrastructure construction activities at the university.
• This position is responsible for: (1) working with campus leadership as it relates to planning for new construction, renovations, space management, occupancy, inventory, and utilization; (2) the development of proposals detailing new construction plans; (3) the modification or improvement of existing facilities and infrastructure; (4) the coordination of selection of architects and consultants to perform designs for construction projects; and (5) for serving as liaison and overseer of construction contractors to ensure adherence to design and construction requirements, projects budget and schedule.
• Further, the Director will coordinate these projects with university units, local and state approval agencies, and other offices. The Director will also be responsible for project cost estimating, budget control and financial accountability.
• The Director will identify cost reduction, technical innovation, and value-engineering opportunities as needed basis for analysis and implementation.
• The Director is charged with providing strong leadership to a high-performing team of construction professionals and cultivating a culture of teamwork, transparency, and accountability.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Construction Management or Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Ten years' experience in construction, facilities & infrastructure planning, design or program management.
• Experience in supervising, managing & training staff.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population across multiple levels and ability to interface with campus leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

• MBA or Master's in Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering.
• Licensed architecture or engineer in the State of Michigan.
